Catching Up to Date

Lynden Cowan was Honoured to be awarded Signature Status in the Federation of Canadian Artists. They only selected 18 total in 2022, and it is a long , heavily scrutinized process.

2022 was a very busy year for me. I entered my painting Fishing, in the Southwest Art Magazine, Artistic Excellence international competition. There were 100 Finalists, and they published 14 of them, and listed the other 86, so I felt Honoured that I was selected as one of the 14 . This painting was also selected to be on exhibition at the Summer and Grace Gallery, 350 Lakeshore Rd,East, unit 2, Oakville. The other painting that was shown in this wonderful magazine is Under Cover, that is already Sold.

Above is a commission, titled Emerald Reflections, of Emerald Lake in British Columbia. Oil on canvas, 24 by 36 inches

I was selected and also published in the Who to Collect section (Oct/ Nov edition) of Southwest Art, was in the In the Hills magazine, juried into the prestigious exhibition Paint Ontario, received a certificate from Luxembourg, selected for Western Art Magazine, published by France last August and included in the SOVA exhibitions, and created two commissions, as well as the event hosted by Lieutenant Governor of Ontario , Honorable Elizabeth Dowdeswell, at her suite celebrating the opening reception of the 150th Anniversary of the Ontario Society of Artists exhibition in September. Last April the Artists for Conservation society and I was also invited to exhibit in Gallery 35 in Brampton, and the Federation Gallery in Vancouver.

Lieutenant Governor of Ontario , Honorable Elizabeth Dowdeswell, and myself.

Below is a recent oil painting by artist Lynden Cowan, titled Secluded Pond, 24 by 36 inches.

The scene is from the Snively Reserve which is a large wetland in the north-west part of Oak Ridges in Richmond Hill and very difficult to access on foot.

Feel Honoured ( thrilled, over the moon actually), to be one of the three artists from across North America to be invited to be part of the Fresh Paint section in the February issue of the Western Art Collector magazine. They showed my completed painting, Secluded Pond, 24 by 36 inches, oil on canvas, of a scene from the Snively Reserve. This is a wonderful International magazine sold across Canada in the Indigo bookstores and in the over a thousand Barnes and Noble bookstores ( and other locations), across the USA.. Feels strange when you see your artwork in the magazine section

Was cleaning the studio at home , and some old photos fell out of an album, bringing back happy memories. When I was 14 years old , I was exhibiting at the Carlings show and the invited dignitaries were escorted in a walk about to view everyone's work. One fellow liked my work so much that he sat down to chat for over 30 minutes ( while the people in charge kept looking at their watches). He introduced himself as Alex, who "also liked to paint", and he said he could " see a spark in your work that will continue to grow, ". We became strong friends after that and I would visit him where he lived in Kleinburg every so often. I started teaching painting classes when I was younger, , and because the parents especially were keen to meet Alex in person, I arranged a date where everyone met up at the McMichael gallery to meet Alex, and let him show and talk about his art work. Here you see Alex posing with some of the students, and he autographed two of the photos, A.Y. Jackson

Very pleased to show the finished commission painting of 55 Mill Street, Acton. Oil on canvas, titled by the owner as "The Home". I only had a very poor scanned photo to start with and would like to thank the community members in Acton, Alton, Caledon and Orangeville who sent clues of more detail, as well as the present owners of this property who located and sent some pictures that were most helpful. It was like a giant puzzle doing this painting, and the client wanted it in a summer setting and was able to recall a lot of needed details. I thoroughly enjoyed creating this artwork.

Hope you have a chance to visit me in my studio at the Alton Mill Arts Centre, 1402 Queen Street West, Alton.

Commissions are welcomed.

Back to the Easel :)
